Organic Produce in Rockland
For many years Rockland County has offered numerous retail sources for organic produce and helath food related items.The Fellowship Community in Chestnut Ridge was established in the 1950s as a Rudolph Steiner Institute and has its own organic Duryea Farm which produces milk,yogurt and cheese which are offered at their Hungry Hollow Co-op in Chestnut Ridge.The Co-op has a full range of organic produce,foodstuffs,hot meals,homeopathic remedies and supplements;in a community surrounding the Green Meadow school and Waldorf facilities.The newest organic farm in Upper Nyack is Hook Mountain Growers;two medical Docs have converted their entire yard into an amazing garden which produces vegetables from early summer thru late fall.This micro farm gives new meaning to Local Grown.Checkout their website Hookmountaingrowers.com.You email your produce list and then drive over to pickup your vegetables that were in the earth 5 mins before you arrived.Back to Earth in New City and their smaller store Born of Earth in Nyack are health food markets which offer a full range of organic produce,deli items,supplements and fresh juices.Organica in Northvale,NJ adjacent to Palisades and Tappan is another full service health food market offering produce,large deli meals,supplements and a juicebar.Rocklands newest health food market is A Matter of Health in Nanuet;the largest full service health store in the area offers a large selection of produce,foodstuffs,remedies and hot meals. The local Farmers Markets offer vendors with Local organic produce and an assortment of seasonal items.Nyacks Market is on Thursdays May-November and Piermonts Market is on Sundays May-November. The choices for organic produce and health related items are abundant and easily available throughout Rockland County all year round.Alternative health practitioners are also a well established group but that is for another Blog.
